I'm Jessica and I'm John and today we're talking about something fun, hobbies and interests. This is one of the best ways to start a conversation in English. Yes, because when people talk about their hobbies, they instantly sound more alive than me before 9:00 a.m. Let's start with the simple questions. What do you like to do? What are your hobbies? What do you do in your free time? Okay, let me answer. In my free time, I like to do nothing. John, that's not a hobby. It is an art. When you talk about hobbies, you can say, "I enjoy. I like, I love, I'm really into. My favorite hobby is Okay, here are my real hobbies. I like cooking. I enjoy watching movies. I'm into photography." See, that's perfect. Also, I love sleeping. John, everyone loves sleeping. That doesn't count. To keep the conversation going, ask how often do you when did you start? Why do you like it? Who do you usually do it with? Let me try. Jessica, what do you like to do? I love reading. How often do you read? Almost every day. Why do you like it? Because it relaxes me and helps me learn. Nice. My hobbies relax me too, especially sleeping. Repeat after me. What do you like to do? I enjoy reading. I'm really into cooking. My favorite hobby is traveling. How often do you do it? Great job. You sound natural already. One time I tried a new hobby, painting. I thought I was good until a kid asked if my painting was a mysterious potato. Was it a potato? No, it was a mountain. Oh, that's worse. John, do you have any unusual hobbies? Yes, organizing my fridge. That's not a hobby. It becomes a hobby when you do it for fun at 2 a.m. I'm concerned.
