You're listening to Mr. English Podcast by Mr. English Podcast. Hi everyone. Welcome back to the Mr. English Podcast. I'm Jessica. And I'm John. And today I need a haircut. Yes, you do. Desperately. Wow, that was fast. Anyway, today we're learning English for the hair salon and barber shop. Let's start with what to say when you walk in. Useful phrases. Hi, I have an appointment. Hi, do you take walk-ins? I'd like a haircut, please. Okay, let me try. Hi, I'd like a haircut, please. And also emotional support. The emotional support is extra. Now, the important part, telling the stylist what you want. Useful phrases. Just a trim. Cut a little. Short on the sides, longer on top. Can you take off about 2 cm? Keep the length layers, please. Not too short. Can you make it look natural? All right. My turn. Short on the sides, long on the top, and make me handsome. John, they're a hair stylist, not a magician. Ouch. While they're cutting your hair, you might hear, "Is this okay?" "A little shorter." Look straight ahead. Tilt your head. And you can answer, "Yes, that's good." A little shorter, please. That's perfect. Sometimes I panic and say it's fine even when it's not fine. Same. The universal salon struggle. Jessica, what if they cut too much? You can say, "H, that's a bit shorter than I expected. Can you blend it a little more? Could you fix the sides?" What if it's so bad I look like a potato? Then you say, "Thank you." and cry at home. Accurate. Repeat after me. I'd like a haircut, please. Just a trim. Short on the sides, longer on top. Not too short, please. That looks great. Excellent. You sound ready for a salon visit. One time I asked for just a trim and they took off half my hair. What did you do? I said, "Thank you." Walked out and wore a hat for 2 weeks. Classic salon survival technique. How much do you want off? Yes, John. That is not a measurement. I panicked. Thanks for joining episode 31 of the Mr. English podcast.
