You're listening to Mr. English Podcast by Mr. English Podcast. Hey everyone, welcome back to the Mr. English Podcast. I'm Jessica and I'm John and I'm lost. Lost where? In the city. I walked one block and now everything looks the same. Perfect. Because today we're learning how to ask for directions in English. Jessica, I really don't know where I am. Let's start with the basic phrases. When you're lost, you can say, "Excuse me, could you help me? I'm looking for how do I get to where is the nearest?" Okay, let me try. Excuse me, could you help me? I'm looking for my confidence number. You're looking for the subway station. Excuse me. Could you help me? How do I get to Main Street? Sure. Go straight for two blocks. Turn left and you'll see it. Sorry. Go straight how many blocks? Two blocks. And then left. Yes. Thank you. What is a block again? A block is the distance between two streets. Easy. Just walk and don't panic. When the directions are confusing, you can ask, "Is it far? Should I take a bus? Could you show me on the map? Do I turn left or right?" Okay, let me practice. Um, excuse me. Is the museum far? About 10 minutes on foot. Should I take a bus? No, it's very close. Could you show me on the map? Sure, it's right here. Oh, that makes sense now. See, you're not lost. You're direction challenged. Thanks. That somehow makes me feel worse. Repeat after me. Excuse me. Could you help me? How do I get to the station? Is it far from here? Do I go left or right? Could you show me on the map? Great. You sound more confident already. One time I asked someone for directions and I still got lost. John, that's because you walked the wrong way. In my defense, left and right are stressful. I understand how you feel, Jessica. What if I ask someone and they talk too fast? Easy. Say, "Could you please repeat that more slowly?" And what if they still talk too fast? Then say, "Could you show me instead?" And what if they're lost, too? Then you run. Thanks for listening to episode 28. Now you'll never get lost again. Well, hopefully.
