Perfect timing because today's episode is about English you need when you're sick. Don't worry, it's not serious, just dramatic. Make sure to subscribe and practice with us. Hello. Hi, this is John. I'm not feeling well today. I think I need to take a sick day. What's the problem? I have a fever, a bad headache, and my throat hurts. Okay, take the day off and rest. Thank you. I'll come back tomorrow if I feel better. Good job. That was very polite. Honestly, I just didn't want him to hear me sneeze into the phone.
John, are you alive? Barely. I brought you some medicine and soup. You're an angel. I think I might survive now. What symptoms do you have? I've got a fever, a cough, and my nose is completely blocked. I feel like I'm breathing through a tiny straw. Classic cold. Did you drink water? Water? No, but I drank three cups of coffee. John, you're sick. Not studying for an exam. Drink water. Hi, how can I help you? My friend has a fever and a sore throat. Do you have something mild? Yes. This medicine will help with fever and bodyaches. Take one tablet every 8 hours. Do I need to eat before taking it? Yes, please. And drink lots of water. Okay. No more coffee then? No more coffee. That is the real pain. Here are the useful words from today. Fever. When your body temperature is high. Cough. Coughing sound. Sore throat. Pain in your throat. Locked nose. You can't breathe well. Headache. Pain in your head. Body aches. Your body hurts. Rest. Relax. Sleep. Medicine. Pills or syrup to help you feel better. Take a sick day. Stay home from work because you're sick. Symptoms. The signs of being sick. Repeat after me. Line one, I'm not feeling well. Line two, I think I need to take a sick day. Line three, I have a fever and a sore throat. Line four, do you have any medicine for this? Line five, I need to rest. Great job. Your English is getting better and better. You know, last winter I got sick for 3 days. I watched 12 movies and ate 10 bowls of soup. That's not being sick. That's a mini vacation. Well, this time I just want to feel normal again. You will just rest and drink water, not coffee. Before we finish, let me teach you something important. When I was a kid, my mom always made me drink ginger tea when I was sick. Ginger tea sounds healthy and dangerous. It actually works. It helps with sore throat and blocked nose. And you know what? I can make some for you. Really? You do that? Of course, but you have to promise no coffee for the rest of the day. Fine. I agree. For my health. Good. Now you're finally acting like an adult. I'm sick, not growing up. Thanks for listening to episode 20 of the Mr. English Podcast. Take care, stay healthy, and we'll see you in the next
