Welcome to the Mr. English Podcast, where we talk, laugh, and learn real English together.
Today's topic: Daily routines.
Okay, John, tell me about your typical weekday morning.
Be honest.
All right. I wake up at 6:30 thanks to my annoying alarm. I try to get out of bed immediately, but I usually hit snooze once or twice.
Classic. Snooze is dangerous. You blink and it's suddenly 8:00 a.m.
Exactly. Then I finally drag myself out of bed and stumble into the kitchen. Coffee first — always.
No coffee, no function. You're basically 50% coffee.
More like 70%.
After coffee, I check the news or weather, and sometimes I journal a little.
Wait, you journal?
Yeah, just like five minutes. It helps me plan my day and dump out any stress.
Wow, I love that. I want to be that person. But my morning usually starts with hitting snooze, then doom scrolling Instagram.
Guilty. I've done that too. How long do you scroll?
Honestly, like 20 minutes. Then I realize I haven't even brushed my teeth.
Relatable. So after the phone, then what?
I wash my face, brush my teeth, and do a bit of stretching or yoga if I feel ambitious. Then I make breakfast — usually toast with peanut butter and banana.
Healthy queen. I'm still in my pajamas eating cereal straight from the box.
What about midday? Do you take breaks during work?
I try to. Around noon, I take a walk outside, clear my head, get some sun, then I eat lunch — usually leftovers.
I wish I took walks. I just sit and stare at my laptop like a zombie.
You need that fresh air. Otherwise it's just screen, snack, screen, snack.
So true. Sometimes I forget to eat lunch until like 3:00 p.m., and then I suddenly feel hangry.
Hangry is dangerous.
For our listeners: Hangry equals hungry plus angry. A very real condition.
So what's your evening routine like?
Around 6 or 7, I cook dinner — something simple like pasta or stir fry. Then I try to unplug. Maybe read. Maybe watch a movie.
Do you cook every night?
I try, but sometimes it's just noodles and a fried egg.
Same. My perfect evening? Hot shower, cozy pajamas, a face mask, and Netflix.
Add popcorn and that's a dream evening.
Then I brush my teeth, set an alarm, and try not to scroll on my phone — but I always scroll.
Yep. Ten minutes of TikTok becomes two hours.
Let’s go over some useful words and phrases from today.
One: Snooze — to delay your alarm.
I hit snooze three times this morning.
Two: Doom scrolling — looking at bad or endless news online.
I doom scrolled before bed and couldn't sleep.
Three: Hangry — feeling angry because you're hungry.
Don’t talk to me when I'm hungry.
Four: Leftovers — food saved from a previous meal.
I had leftovers for lunch.
Five: Unplug — to disconnect from phones or screens.
I try to unplug after 8:00 p.m.
Now let’s practice some sentences together. Ready?
I wake up around 7:00 a.m.
I brush my teeth and get dressed.
I make coffee and eat breakfast.
In the evening, I watch a movie or read.
That's my daily routine.
Everyone's routine is different. Some people work out at 5:00 a.m. Others sleep until noon. No judgment.
The most important thing? Brush your teeth.
Seriously. And drink water.
Tell us in the comments — what’s your daily routine? We love hearing from you.
