Hi everyone, welcome back to Mr. English Podcast.
I'm Emily.
And I'm John.
Thanks for joining us again.
In today's episode, we're going to help you learn how to check in at a hotel in English.
Yes, we'll show you useful phrases, explain vocabulary, and have a real conversation you can practice with us.
And we'll also share a funny hotel story from one of our trips.
Okay, picture this.
We've just landed after a long flight. We're tired and we arrive at our hotel.
I remember that. I was holding two heavy bags and just wanted a shower.
Same.
So, we walked into the lobby and went to the reception desk. That's where you check in.
Let’s teach a few words before we go to the conversation.
Vocab check.
Number one: Lobby — the big open area when you first enter a hotel.
Number two: Reception or front desk — where the hotel staff helps you.
Number three: Reservation — a booking.
Number four: Luggage — your suitcases or travel bags.
Got it.
Now, let’s have a real hotel check-in conversation.
Receptionist: Good evening. Welcome to Ocean View Hotel. Do you have a reservation?
Guest: Yes, it's under John Martin.
Receptionist: Thank you. May I see your passport, please?
Guest: Sure. Here you go.
Receptionist: You've booked a double room for two nights. Is that correct?
Guest: Yes, that's right. Is breakfast included?
Receptionist: Yes, breakfast is served from 7 to 10 a.m.
Here’s your room key. Room 312. The elevator is to your left.
Guest: Thank you.
Repeat after me. Practice these phrases slowly.
One: We'd like to check in, please.
Two: Do you have a reservation?
Three: Is breakfast included?
Four: What time is checkout?
Five: Where's the elevator?
I love this room. It has a balcony.
And look — free water bottles.
Nice. And the bed looks comfy.
I once stayed at a hotel where the bed made a weird noise every time I moved.
Haha, I remember that trip. The room key didn't work either.
Let’s teach a few more words.
Vocab check.
Number one: Double room — a room for two people.
Number two: Balcony — a small outdoor space.
Number three: Room key — usually a card.
Number four: Included — already in the price.
Number five: Check out — when you leave the hotel.
Let’s review some useful phrases from today's episode.
Repeat after us.
Number one: Do you have Wi-Fi?
Number two: Can we get a late checkout?
Number three: What time is breakfast?
Number four: Can I have another towel?
Number five: How do I connect to the internet?
One time I asked for extra pillows and the hotel brought me ten. I think they misunderstood me.
I once accidentally asked for a window key instead of room key. The staff looked so confused.
It's okay to make mistakes. That's how we learn.
We hope you enjoyed this episode of Mr. English Podcast.
Don't forget to practice these phrases, especially if you're planning to travel, and subscribe for more episodes.
In the next one, we'll help you order food at a restaurant in English.
See you next time — and sweet dreams in your hotel room.
Bye bye.
